Social media skills for the classroom and teacher training

How can social media be used critically, creatively and responsibly in the classroom? EUniWell offers four online modules as open educational resources (OER) that help learners develop the competencies required for the informed use of digital media in educational settings.

Social media is playing an increasingly important role in everyday educational settings. But how can we evaluate information in digital media and verify its accuracy? How do social media platforms shape communication, participation and public discourse in the digital sphere? And can these platforms be meaningfully integrated into teaching and learning processes? To address these questions, the European University Alliance EUniWell, with the involvement of researchers from Konstanz, offers four online modules aimed primarily at people working in the education sector, including teacher education students, teachers and teacher educators.

Three of the modules are interactive self-study courses that teach practical skills in the areas of "social media literacy" and "digital wellbeing". They can be completed at any time and independently of one another. The fourth module explores literary education in and through social media and provides ready-to-use teaching materials for the classroom. All four modules are available in English and, in parts, in other European languages. They are published under a Creative Commons licence (CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0) and may be freely reused for non-commercial purposes.

You can access the OER "Social Media Literacy for Use in Schools and Teacher Training" at the Central Open Education Repository of the universities in Baden-Württemberg (ZOERR).
